beauty, after is part of my ongoing beauty project, which began in 2019. Written for piano and percussion, with optional electronics and lighting, the work continues an extended exploration of the concept of beauty through sound, performance, and perception.

The piece has been performed a few times by percussionist Josh Perry and pianist Yumi Suehiro as part of ensemble mise-en’s concert series, including presentations at MISE-EN_PLACE and the MISE-EN Festival 2026.

Like the earlier works in the beauty series, beauty, after builds upon and reinterprets ideas from its predecessors while extending the project’s central inquiry: What is beauty? Rather than proposing a definitive answer, the work revisits this question through new perspectives, allowing inherited materials, forms, and gestures to be transformed and reimagined, generating new meanings and possibilities.
